Chief Accountant

Picture yourself with us!

Are you looking for a position with a well-established company driven by innovative projects and sustained growth that supports its long-term success? Are you known for your thoroughness and attention to detail? Does the idea of joining an experienced team appeal to you? This is your opportunity!

For more than 45 years, Groupe SM Tardif has brought together several companies operating in the construction and metal fabrication sectors. We are looking for a Chief Accountant to oversee the Group’s monthly financial reporting and contribute to the continuous improvement of our processes.

This is a technical expert role, not a management position. As Chief Accountant, you will serve as the team’s technical resource, with no employees to supervise. Your thoroughness, attention to detail and ability to navigate a complex environment will make all the difference.

Profile sought

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in Accounting.
  • You have at least five years of experience in general accounting, particularly with month-end closing and financial statement preparation.
  • You have experience with financial consolidation or working in a multi-company environment.
  • You have experience in the manufacturing, construction or industrial sector. This experience is essential.
  • You have advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP or INDEX-MATCH, and reconciliation models. Knowledge of Power Query is an asset.
  • Do you hold a CPA designation? That’s an asset, but it’s not a requirement.

Roles and responsabilities

  • You will lead the month-end close process from start to finish, ensuring established deadlines are met.
  • You will prepare monthly financial statements and be responsible for reconciliations, balance sheets, variance analysis and explaining fluctuations.
  • You will prepare the consolidation of results for the Group’s various companies and manage intercompany transactions.
  • You will optimize accounting processes to automate, simplify and improve their reliability. We want to hear your ideas!
  • You will analyze general ledger accounts and monitor fixed assets and cash flow.
  • You will prepare the year-end file for the auditors.
  • You will support the Finance team with ad hoc analyses and budget preparation.
